Pure pooches don’t possess any markings or any other color traces. Their fur color is simply black. Unfortunately, this type of color is not accepted by the AKC but it’s very desirable on the market. So, in case you like pure black colored Frenchie’s and you don’t want to use it for showing purposes, then it might be the right pet for you.

Are black French bulldogs rare?

Their fur color is simply black. The rarest colors are Blue, Lilac, Chocolate, Black & Tan and Merle which although are not recognized French Bulldog colors they are very popular, with the Blue Merle being particularly rare and often expensive. You don’t have to look far to find Frenchie’s in Blue, Lilac, Chocolate, Black & Tan and even Merle.
Although this is a purebred dog breed, you may find them in shelters and rescues. Opt to adopt if you can!

Besides being companions, they once served as excellent ratters, but today their job focuses on being fabulous family friends and show dogs. Even apartment dwellers and first-time pet parents will love this affectionate breed.

However, whilst researching for this article I found some breeders bringing back a longer nose to try and help with the breathings. As a brachycephalic breed, most French Bulldogs experience trouble breathing and need an operation to help. This is known as Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome – (BOAS). They are breeding Frenchie to Frenchie I should add, just selecting dogs with better form to breed from.

The French Bulldog is small but substantial in build with a powerful muscular body. He sports a short easy-care coat to accompany his easygoing personality. The Frenchie likes to play, but he also enjoys spending his days relaxing on the sofa.
